I'm Finding It Hard To Be A Gentleman(Me and Becca.)

She put a hand on his shoulder. "Calm down. I'm not saying I don't want it to work out. I actually really do want us to be together. But you pretty much hit the nail on the head when you said society won't approve." She said reassuringly. "I mean, it could work. We could make it work. I'm sure of it."

He took a deep breath and sighed, momentarily satisfied. "Oh... well, okay then. Here, come on, we can talk this over on the way home," he said with a nod toward the car.

She sighed and took her hand off his shoulder and climbed in the car. "Ok."
[BRAIN FART!]

He sighed heavily as he navigated the car back to the highway. "So, what's the plan? Keep it a secret? We could avoid eating at restaurants... you know, just spend time together at home and stuff," he said, trying to sound like he even somewhat knew what to do.

"Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I could always get coffee or something and then come over or something." She said, looking out the window again. She sighed, this was going to be harder than she thought. They'd never be able to tell anyone, society these days just wouldn't approve. She tapped her hands on her legs and thought.

He nodded in agreement, though he wished that the world would just accept them for what they were - two troubled people who happened to be in love. "Yeah, that'd work, I think. Uhhh, do you maybe want to come over later today?" he asked, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as he drove.

At this remark her heart started beating hard and her breathing quickened. She was still a little flighty around him. "Oh...Um...That sounds great Harper." She said smiling. "Do you want me to pick anything up before I come over?" She asked quietly.

Harper glanced over at her with a smile. "Great. Only if you want to. I didn't have anything in particular in mind," he said softly, shrugging.

She sighed. This was great. "Alright. I'll pick up something small on the way over." She said, smiling still. She was still shocked that he would ever like her, but she wasn't gonna oppose it. She was too happy.

"Nice. I'm looking forward to it already," he said in a gentle whisper before leaning over and planting a soft kiss on her cheek. He felt just as happy as she did.

She felt her heart jump into her throat when he kissed her and she blushed deeply. She felt foolish but she let out a slight giggle. "Me too." Was all she managed to choke out.

She drove up in her blue station-wagon. She stopped on the way and picked up some chocolate chip cookies to snack on while she was there. As a cover-story she told her mom she was going to her friend Alice's house. She rang the doorbell and tried out some greetings in her head while she waited for him.

Harper hopped off the couch at lightning speed upon hearing the ring of the doorbell. He swiftly fixed his hair one last time, then opened the door. "Good afternoon," he said, grinning. He almost felt a little too formal, greeting her that way.

She smiled and hugged him. "Well, good afternoon to you too," she said. "I got some cookies at the store. Hope that's ok." She lingered by the doorway and then followed him to the living room.

Harper chuckled at the mention of cookies. "Food is always a safe bet with me. I love food," he said as he sat back down on the couch. "Want to watch a movie? I don't really know which ones you like, but there should be at least one around here somewhere... And please, have a seat."

She sat the container on the coffee table and sat down on the sofa next to him. This was amazing, she was sitting in his house watching a movie with him. She felt like she was 15 again. "It's a pretty safe bet with me too. I even eat when I'm bored." She laughed.

He took a cookie from the container and gleefully consumed it. "Same here. Eating is so... entertaining." He laughed. "Ever seen Fight Club?" He hoped that maybe she was the kind of girl who liked violent action movies.

"FIGHT CLUB?! I looooove that movie!" She said laughing and taking a cookie. She couldn't believe he had that movie. It was her favorite.

He grinned. "Me too! Maybe we're more alike than we thought," he chuckled. He hopped off the couch and prepared to search for his copy of the film.

"Maybe so." She smiled. She loved this. It was so fun. She took another cookie while he looked for the movie and looked around the living room.

He opened the double doors of the cabinet below the TV. Rows upon rows of DVDs sat before him. He lay down on the floor in order to peruse them. "Blade Runner... V for Vendetta... Kill Bill... ah, here it is. Fight Club."

She loved all of them. Every single one he read off she loved. "Yay! Let's watch it." She said smiling.

He pried the DVD out of its case, then turned on the TV, put the DVD in the player, and pressed play with satisfaction. "Here we go," he announced, taking a seat on the couch once again.

She moved closer to him and leaned back. "This is nice, huh?" She said quietly.
